If you think your computer may be infected, take all necessary steps to clear your system and avoid infecting other computers.
• Be cautious about what disks and files you accept from other people.
• Don’t reuse disks that have been in other computers, don’t download files from insecure sites, and don’t open e-mail attachments unless you are expecting them. Be wary of messages and attachments, even from people you know, with vague subject lines and contents, such as ‘Check this’ or ‘See these pics!!!’
• Obtain an antivirus program to more safely share disks, download files from the Internet and open e-mail attachments.
• If your system gets a virus, visit your virus-scan software manufacturer’s Web site and install any virus updates that are available. Then run the software. The software may not be able to delete the virus, but it may be able to identify it.
• Search the Web for information regarding your specific virus by typing the name of the virus or its associated file into a search engine, followed by the word ‘virus.’ For example, ‘Melissa virus,’ ‘BubbleBoy virus,’ and so on.
• Download and install any software patches or other programs that will help you eliminate the virus. Or follow any instructions you find on deleting the virus manually.
• Run another virus scan to make sure the virus was dealt with properly.
• Employ extra caution when you receive attachments that end in the commonly used extensions .doc, .exe, .com, .xls or .ppt. Never open attachments that end in .vbs or .js, since a typical user would never have a reason to open these files.

When people buy computers, they are usually aware of the fact that there are things that can go on to a person’s computer that can be very harmful. One of those things which can be very harmful are viruses. As a result of this knowledge, it is almost automatic for people to make sure that they have some form of antivirus software on their computer. Some people will purchase software to install on their computer. In addition, some people will download software into their computer. Either way, people are waning to make sure that they have the proper protection that they will need. What most people don’t look at is how exactly antivirus software works.

What exactly does antivirus software do in order to protect your computer and the assets that you have on it? There are a number of things that are done. One of those things is that they will use a method known as signature based software in order to protect the computer. How exactly does that work? It works in the way that the software will compare the contents of a certain file to a list that the software company has which has viruses on it. If they match, then the software will need to do more work in order to get rid of the threat. It will go through the entire file, due to the fact that the virus can be in several different places. In addition, another technique known as malicious activity detection is used in order to protect a computer. These are effective techniques because of the fact that it searches for suspicious or unknown program characteristics. This form of detection is very good in the fact that it can help and find viruses which can be hard to find or are not known. A file analysis is a very effective tool which is used by antivirus software. It searches the entire hard drive. The only major problem with using this method for getting rid of viruses is the fact that this operation takes up a lot of resources from your computer, which results in the user not being able to use the computer when this is going on.

People want to be protected to make sure that their computer doesn’t have any viruses on it. Most people will take advantage of antivirus software to make sure that they are protected. While properly using antivirus software can greatly reduce the threat of having a problem with your computer, there are some drawbacks to using antivirus software. Some of those issues are well known to many people that use computers on a regular basis, while other issues are not known and talked about.

Most people realize that when they run antivirus software on their computer that the computer that they are using will usually run slower than without the software. This is because of a number of reasons. One is that the software will scan and take a look at all off the contents on the computer. In order to be able to conduct this task, the software needs to draw on the resources that the computer has to offer. Some people will complain that the computer will be so slow that they will not be able to work on the computer while the virus software is testing. Most people
